Australia’s first trackless tram arrives in Perth before potential trial along Scarborough Beach Road
Australia’s first trackless tram has arrived in Perth following a long journey from Shanghai, China and will undergo testing before potentially running along an iconic slice of WA’s coast.
The 30m tram will be used along Scarborough Beach Road but experts must first examine the technology to determine if it is suitable for a 7km route from Glendalough train station to Scarborough beach.
The self-guided vehicle will run along a digital track rather than a steel track and will be able to charge at stations in the few seconds it takes to pick up passengers. It can hold up to 150 passengers.
A trial is set to commence in the City of Stirling’s administration carpark over the next few weeks, with locals and stakeholders given the chance to ride the tram as part of user-experience testing.
Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the tram is part of the City’s bold vision to transform the area.
“We have a big, bold vision for the Stirling city centre and the Scarborough Beach Road activity corridor and the CRRC trackless tram is the last piece of the puzzle to help make this a reality,” Irwin said.
The city began researching a business case for the trackless tram in 2021 to assess the feasibility of a mid-tier transit system from Glendalough train station to Scarborough beach in Perth’s northern coastal corridor.

Llega primer IE-TRAM a Yucatán

El gobernador Mauricio Vila anunció a través de sus redes sociales la llegada de la primer unidad del Ie-Tram en Yucatán, la cual servirá para conectar a Uman, Kanasín y Mérida.
Fue a través de sus redes sociales donde dio la noticia, destacando que es el primer transporte 100 por ciento electivo en Mérida, México y Latinoamérica.
«Esta mañana llegó a nuestro estado la primera unidad del Ie-tram, la nueva ruta del Sistema de Transporte “Va y Ven” única en su tipo en #Latinoamérica y la primera 100% eléctrica del sureste del país. Muy pronto podrán conocerla más de cerca y hacer equipo para seguir transformando la movilidad en nuestro estado»
Este transporte iniciará su periodo de prueba en poco tiempo, en la zona oriente de la capital, donde ya se encuentra muy avanzada la construcción de las vialidades por las que pasará la ruta de este autobús.
